You don’t need to be an experienced hiker or a mountain goat, but you should enjoy walking and be reasonably fit. This is a genuine mountain walking holiday—not a sightseeing tour with a few short strolls.
We choose easy-to-moderate mountain trails and avoid exposed or “scary” trails, scrambling, climbing, Via Ferrata, and unnecessarily steep ascents and descents. We’re not trying to frighten or exhaust anyone.
We generally walk around 6–8 miles a day with approximately 1,000 feet of ascent and descent, so these aren’t flat valley walks. Some trails are smooth gravel paths, while others are rocky and uneven, with plenty of uphill and downhill sections.
We use cable cars and chairlifts to get into the mountains quickly rather than spending hours climbing steep hills just for the sake of it. A typical day involves about 5–6 hours in the mountains, including plenty of photo stops, lunch, and no doubt a cappuccino and/or strudel along the way.
We also provide walking poles for anyone who would like to use them.
You should expect to be on your feet for much of the day and finish pleasantly tired—but hopefully not exhausted.
Our goal isn’t to walk a certain number of miles or prove how tough everyone is. It’s for you to have a wonderful day in the mountains and hopefully finish thinking, “That was fabulous.”
If you’re looking for genuinely difficult mountain hikes, climbing, or Via Ferrata, excellent professional mountain guides in the Dolomites specialize in exactly that.
That’s simply not what we do.
