Guided by Gary P. Scott – (a veteran of 40+ treks in Nepal)

  • November 2 – 13 – Mount Everest Comfort Trek – Nepal – (12 days)
  • November 12 – 23 – Mount Everest Comfort Trek – Nepal – (12 days)
  • April 1 – 12, 2022 – Mount Everest Comfort Trek – Nepal – (12 days)
  • April 11 – 22, 2022 – Mount Everest Comfort Trek – Nepal – (12 days)

Mount Everest – (29,035ft) – the highest mountain in the world taken from the Everest View Hotel.

I invite you to join my Sherpa family and I on an amazing seven-day trek to see Mount Everest while staying in luxury lodges and enjoying great food. This will be my 40th (something) trek in Nepal and my 20th (something) trek in the Everest area and I am very excited to take a group back to experience this amazing place while getting to know my incredible Sherpa family and to see Mount Everest (8848meters) – the highest mountain on earth – right in front of us down the valley.

Pemba Tenzing Sherpa and his wonderful wife Nima – just part of my wonderful Sherpa family.

I call this a “comfort trek” because we’ll be staying in the most comfortable lodges and enjoying the best food available in the Everest area (and hot showers…). Our trekking distances will be short and we’ll take our time on the trail and take ample time to adjust to the altitude (I have 35 years of experience with this) – SHOULD BE IN ITALICS. We will not be going too high so altitude will not be an issue and it will not be anywhere near as cold as it gets higher up. There will also be the option to trek up a 15,750ft peak for those who are up for a greater challenge and great views, and there will be plenty of side hikes we can do.

Our (optional) high point – a 15,759ft peak behind the village of Thame in the Everest region..

From close to one of our lodges, you’ll have an excellent view of Mount Everest – you won’t believe how big it is! I have done this trek many times before and I think it is a perfect way to see Mount Everest, experience the Himalayas, and get to know the incredible Sherpa people. As you go higher the altitude affects you more as does the cold so it is less fun, plus the quality of the lodges and food diminishes as the altitude increases – and generally you simply don’t feel that great.

Waking to new snow and an amazing day with great views including Mt. Everest down the valley.

As far as fitness goes it is not really an issue. Anyone who can walk 10km in a day can handle this trek. I have taken 70-year-olds to 18,000ft and people of every size, shape, and fitness level and we rarely have a problem. I am always asking people to slow down and enjoy the view and with Sherpas in front and bringing up the rear there is no issue with how fast or slow you hike, and there is no issue of someone holding the group up. Fitter walkers can stride on ahead with one of the Sherpa guides (delete and) so there is no need for us to all stay together and (delete so) people can walk at their own pace.

We’ll be staying at the very best lodges and enjoy the very best food in the Everest region./

You will only be carrying a light day pack since your duffle bag will be taken from lodge-to-lodge by porters or yaks. We recommend trekking poles (which can be picked up in Lulka inexpensively) and lightweight hiking shoes (no need for heavy waterproof boots), and no special equipment is necessary beyond a warm jacket, gloves, and a beanie. We will send you a recommended packing list and most items can be picked up in Kathmandu or in Namche Bazar. I have chosen to do this trek in November (and April) as the weather is usually more stable and there are fewer people on the trail. Our route also avoids the more popular and busy “Everest Highway” route. This year there should be fewer people traveling which will be to our benefit, and we will follow all COVID safe procedures.

On the trail to the Sherpa village of Khunde to visit my Sherpa family’s home for Sherpa tea.

I will offer this trek again in April, 2020 – (exact dates to be decided), so let me know if you have interest in that trip versus this one in November 2021. I can always just keep you on a short list and we can stay in touch on it. I am usually based in Europe, leads walking tours to Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Dolomites of northern Italy during the northern hemisphere summer and active road trips in Australia and New Zealand in the winters. You can read more about these tours here at my website.

You’ll have plenty of free time to enjoy the great shopping in Namche Bazar, and Kathmandu!

I have a 95% success rate getting people to where they want to get to in Nepal, and after 250 international trips and 36+ years of guiding I have never had a client have an accident on any of my trips. I co-guided a successful expedition to Mt. Everest in 2003 and have successfully and safely guided many major peaks in Nepal and around the world. You can check out my mountaineering bio and more about me at this link.
