The Tour Du Mont Blanc (TMB) – Walking Tour Around Mont Blanc Traversing France, Italy and Switzerland.
9 days/8 nights – 2022 & 2023
I am very excited to offer this incredible trip again in 2022. I have done this trek three times and I truly consider it to be one of the best hikes in the world. Traversing three countries, cultures and fantastic landscapes, you will experience a great deal of satisfaction walking all the way around Mont Blanc – Europe’s highest mountain – with spectacular mountain scenery all the way.
The walking tour begins in the international mountain resort town of Chamonix, France – which I think is one of the coolest towns on the planet – with incredible views of Mont Blanc rising above it. I would have based myself there for the summer hiking season if I had not discovered the Dolomites in northern Italy. It’s well worth spending a few days before and after this trip in this very fun and cosmopolitan mountain town – with lots to do and sights to see and great bars and restaurants, shopping and day hikes, let alone the amazing cable car ride up the Aiguille du Midi and across the glacier to Italy right below you. The views of Mont Blanc from Chamonix are spectacular – and I’ve seen a few mountain views in my time.
The TMB walking route follows hiking trails, walking paths, rural dirt roads, Roman roads (yes!), and thousand year old paths connecting villages – there is even a section that Hanibal took his entire army including elephants over one of the passes we’ll hike over – so a lot of history! We’ll use van transfers over a few “beside the road” sections that are long and boring and not worth doing – which is by far the best way to do this hike.
Some companies offer an “express” 6 day TMB but I think it is a pity to miss some of the cool places to stay and explore more along the way. I am suggesting a 9 day trip here on the trail, and you should plan to spend a few days and nights in Chamonix at the start and the end of the trip. Of course I can adjust the itinerary for private/family groups as you like.
We’ll stay in cool and interesting villages, resort towns, mountain lodges and family run hotels and enjoy fabulous food along the way. Our luggage will be moved every day to our next night’s stay and you only need to carry a light day pack each day. Rooms will be private with attached baths and as my “Right Path” guests know I only choose the “best” hotels and places to stay that are unique, with a great atmosphere and vibe.
There are plenty of ascents and descents along the route so it is best to be in good hiking shape – this is a trek for people who love to hike – (I have taken people who were not “in shape” and who had not trained at all for the hike and they did it)…I can help people prepare and get in shape for a trip like this – no problem – and there is always the “luggage van” to get a ride in if people want a day off from walking for a section of the trail. But people should be physically and mentally prepared and ready to hike 10-12 miles up and down hills every day for ten days with one rest day in the stylish and fun Italian resort town of Courtmeyer along the way.
So – incredible and challenging hiking, spectacular alpine and mountain views, history, culture, awesome food, wine and beer from three countries, fascinating mountain towns and villages. And as I mentioned, a great feeling as you trek back into the Chamonix valley knowing you have hiked all the way around this world famous and beautiful mountain range – and then back in Chamonix the party and celebration will happen!
The group size will be between 8 – 12 and hopefully my wife Katarina will come along as my assistant guide. I am sending this email out to “Right Path” followers and past guests to see if there are particular dates people are interested in – the best months are mid-June through September. As I mentioned above I am very excited to have decided to offer this awesome trip again – it is one of my favorite hikes on the planet and I am very excited to take people on this fantastic adventure again.
